A spinning record and 76 products for an Essex vinyl pressing company

Web Design #  Website Animation #  CMS Build

Another Great Record (AGR) makes vinyl, CDs and cassettes for independent labels and artists from Great Dunmow in Essex. With a new name and brand in place, AGR needed a website that looked like the company it wanted to be. We designed and built the site: 108 pages, a library of every colour, finish and format AGR offers, a showcase of records it has pressed, and a record that spins out to meet every visitor.

Another Great Record's website pages laid out at an angle, with AGR's own splatter and swirl records rolling across themAGR's products library on a tablet, with a fan of AGR's coloured records in front of it

THE RUNDOWN

AGR has made records for independent labels for 25 years, and its old website didn't show it. agrm.co.uk was a plain WordPress site of about 14 pages that looked years older than the company behind it. A label choosing who makes its next record often meets the website first, and that one looked like a supplier from another decade.

AGR had just been through a rename and a new brand, and wanted a site to match. The brief was to look like creative industry leaders, the people a label calls when it wants more than standard black vinyl. That meant showing every colour, finish and format AGR offers, and the records it has already made, so a label could see what's possible before it gets in touch.

It also had to be easy to run. AGR is a team of three who spend their days on production, so adding a new product or a finished record couldn't mean waiting on a developer.

WEB DESIGN
& BUILD

A design signed off before the build

Samantha designed the site around the new brand: Robson's heavy capitals on an ebony and ivory base, with papaya orange in the lead and the brand's green, blue, crimson and gold picking out the detail. She showed AGR three directions, and AGR picked the third for one idea in particular: a record that slides out of its sleeve. Samantha then walked AGR through the full design on video, page by page, and AGR signed it off before a page was built. With the design agreed up front, Max built the site in Webflow to match it exactly, in four weeks.

A record that spins out to meet you

The home page opens on AGR's own product. A record slides out from behind the dark panel, turns once and slips away, and every five seconds another follows in a different colour, like a fresh record pulled from its sleeve. In the headline, a cassette and a CD turn slowly beside the words, fading in on the same half-second beat as the rest of the hero, so it arrives as one piece. A label knows what AGR does before it has read a word.

Small things nobody's meant to notice

Most of the craft is in details visitors won't spot. Hover over the cassette or the CD and a second spin kicks in, so they speed up under the cursor. The cassette's take-up reel turns faster than the other, as it would at the start of a real tape. The menu bar changes between light and dark as each section passes beneath it, switching just past its middle, where the eye reads the change, instead of at its edge. Hover over a heading like Audio Excellence and a card with the detail follows the cursor, easing along behind it. And for anyone whose device is set to reduce motion, the spinning parts stand still. None of it is announced, and all of it is why the site feels finished.

76 products and 27 records AGR runs itself

The products library holds 76 pages, one for every colour, compound, weight and format: neon and glow-in-the-dark solids, splatters, half-and-half splits, eco-mix and 180-gram heavyweight, plus cassettes and CDs. Eight filters sort them, and each page answers what a label asks first: the weights, the minimum run and the formats it comes in. The showcase holds 27 records AGR has pressed, each with a page on the release, the pressing and the packaging. The logos of 18 labels AGR works with run across the home page.

Late summer is the busiest time of year in vinyl, with every order heading for the Christmas market, so we offered to write the product and showcase copy for AGR. AGR sent the photos and names, we wrote the rest, and AGR read it through once before launch.

Everything sits in Webflow's CMS, and AGR's team now adds new products and finished records itself, with a video guide we recorded for them. A record can go on the site the week it ships, without waiting on us.
