Charity website design

Websites for charities that help people find support, make giving quick and stay easy for a small team to run.

Cold designs and builds charity websites in Webflow. The work starts with the people who use the site: someone looking for help, a supporter ready to give, a volunteer, a funder doing due diligence. We write the copy with your team, connect your donation platform and set the site up so staff and volunteers can post news, events and vacancies without waiting on a developer.

The challenge for Charities businesses

Charity websites tend to grow by accident. A page for every funder, a news section nobody has time for and three donate buttons going to three different platforms. Services are hard to find, accessibility has slipped and the site falls apart on a phone. The people who most need the information are the least likely to persevere, and supporters who hit a clumsy donate form often leave without giving.

02

Web design and development for Charities

We plan around three routes, get help, give and get involved, and make each one obvious from the homepage. Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA is built in from the first design, in line with the Charity Digital Code of Practice. Donations run through the platform you already use, styled to match the site, with Gift Aid captured at the point of giving. The pricing calculator will give you a ballpark before we've even met.

03

What changes for your Charities business

A site that service users can find their way around, supporters can give through in a minute and trustees are proud to send funders to. Staff spend less time answering emails the website should have answered. Volunteers can keep events and news current. And when a funder asks how many people used your service pages last quarter, you'll have the number. Browse our portfolio for recent builds.

What we do

Our web design services in Charities

Custom Website Design for Charities

We design from your cause outwards, with real photography of your people and places wherever you have it. No smiling stock families. Many charity audiences are under strain, so pages stay calm and easy to scan, with colour contrast that passes accessibility checks. The brand carries through to donation pages, emails and printed materials, so supporters recognise you wherever they meet you.

  • Designed from a blank page, never a theme.
  • Copy written by us, around the customers you want.
  • Every page built to bring in an enquiry.

E-commerce Web Design for Charities

Plenty of charities sell things: event places, merchandise, Christmas cards, upcycled products. We build Webflow shops for these, with the money going straight to your account. Purchases and donations are kept separate, because Gift Aid applies to gifts and can't be claimed on sales. Larger shops with stock across several sites usually belong on a dedicated platform, and we'll say so early.

  • Product pages that answer the questions buyers ask.
  • Delivery, collection and order emails set up before launch.
  • A checkout that's quick on a phone.

Portfolio and Creative Sites for Charities

Impact is what funders and supporters want to see, and it's often the weakest part of a charity site. We build a stories and impact section your team can add to: case studies with consent, project pages, annual figures and photos from events. Each story can link to the service it describes and to the donate page, so reading about your work leads somewhere.

  • Large, fast-loading images that put the work first.
  • Project pages you can add to yourself in minutes.
  • Enquiry forms that ask for dates, budgets and the brief.

SEO-Friendly Web Design for Charities

Service and fundraising pages are planned for search from the first sketch: plain headings, answers near the top, accessible markup and NGO schema. Your registered charity number and Fundraising Regulator badge sit where search engines and cautious donors expect to find them. If you want more search traffic after launch, our charity SEO team works from the same page plan.

  • Titles, headings and schema set up from launch.
  • Pages built to pass Core Web Vitals.
  • Internal links planned across service and location pages.

Mobile-Optimised Web Design for Charities

A lot of charity traffic arrives from social posts and text messages, which means phones. We design the mobile site first: a donate button that stays in reach, Apple Pay and Google Pay where your platform supports them, forms that don't time out, and service information you can read on a cracked screen in a waiting room.

  • Designed on a phone first, then scaled up.
  • Click to call and short forms on every page.
  • Tested on real devices before launch.

Website Redesign for Charities

Before we rebuild, we look at what the current site earns: pages that rank, links from partners and funders, donation forms that convert. We hold on to the pages that work, rewrite the weak ones and point old addresses at their new homes so supporters and search engines follow you. Years of news posts and PDFs get sorted into what's worth keeping, archiving or rewriting.

  • An audit of what your current site earns before anything changes.
  • Redirects mapped so your rankings carry across.
  • A faster, clearer site without starting from zero.
How we work

Audit. Build. Launch.

01 · Days 1 to 3

Audit

The first few days are spent with your team on who uses the site and why. We review the current site, your donation and CRM tools and the organisations people compare you with, then agree a page plan and the action each page needs to prompt.

02 · Days 4 to 16

Build

From the end of week one, design and build overlap and you see progress every few days. We draft service and fundraising copy from conversations with staff, send it back for checking and build it into Webflow as each page is approved.

03 · Days 17 to 21

Launch

Before launch come accessibility testing, donation tests with real payments, form checks and redirects. Then it goes live, and staff and volunteers get a recorded handover so they can keep news, events and vacancies current.

The local picture

Website design for Charities businesses

Most people reach a charity's website at an emotional moment: a diagnosis, a friend asking for sponsorship, a story shared on Facebook. They decide in seconds if you look credible and if the next step is clear. Funders and corporate partners look harder, checking governance, impact and how you talk about the people you support. A dated site quietly costs you in both places.

Questions

Charities web design FAQs

Forty second answers with no jargon. Anything else, ring the office and ask whoever picks up.

Can donations go through JustGiving or Enthuse on our site?

Yes. Most donation platforms, including JustGiving, Enthuse and Donorbox, offer embedded forms or checkout pages we can style to match the site. Some keep donors on your pages from start to finish, which tends to lose fewer of them. We check what your platform allows and how Gift Aid declarations and supporter data reach your CRM.

How many weeks does a new site take to build?

We usually need between a month and six weeks. With a small site and your words and pictures already gathered, three weeks can work. Larger sites with several services, a shop or CRM integration take eight to twelve, and much of that time is review rounds with staff and trustees. We agree every date before starting.

Will the website meet accessibility standards?

We design and build to WCAG 2.2 AA, which covers colour contrast, keyboard use, screen readers, captions and plain language. We test with automated tools and by hand before launch. Many of your visitors rely on these features, and some funders now ask about them. We'll also show you how to keep new content accessible as your team adds it.

What budget should we set aside for a new website?

That depends on the number of pages and services, any shop or donation features and how much copy we write. Answer a few questions on our pricing calculator and you'll have a ballpark within minutes, plus options for paying in instalments. Some organisations cover a new site through a capacity-building grant, and we can supply a scoped quote for the application.

Can volunteers update the site without breaking it?

Yes. Webflow's Editor lets people change text, add events and post news while the design stays locked. You choose who gets a login. We record a handover for whoever will be editing, and if something bigger needs changing later, a care plan covers it.

Can the site handle event sign-ups and challenge places?

Yes. Event pages run from the CMS, so staff can add a fun run or a gala dinner in minutes. Free sign-ups can go through the site's own forms, and paid places through your donation platform or a ticketing tool like Eventbrite. Participants' details land in your inbox or CRM, ready for the follow-up.

Why Cold

What charities get from Cold

Website design for Charities businesses

A charity site has to work for three audiences at once: people who need help, people who want to give and people who want to volunteer. We design a clear route for each, make giving quick on a phone, build to accessibility standards from the start and hand over a CMS your staff and volunteers can run without us.

A new site does more when people can find it and campaigns point at it. SEO for charities grows the visitors you don't pay for, and our charity marketing work covers Ad Grants, email and social appeals.
